We at MK Mortgages are proud to give back to those who serve their country, bringing our expertise to bear in helping them secure a home.
Having spent over 16 years in the military himself, our qualified founder Marc Kavanagh is particularly well-placed to advise and support our service personnel. Whether you are embarking on a new stage of life outside the military, or attempting to buy a home whilst serving, Marc’s personal experience adds depth and insight to the mortgage process.
What is Forces Help to Buy?
The low rate of home ownership in the armed forces is being addressed by the government’s £200-million Forces Help to Buy Scheme (FHTB). Launched in April 2014, the scheme has been extended to the end of December 2022.
Put simply, the scheme helps service personnel borrow up to 50% of their salary, to a maximum of £25,000, interest-free.
This can be used to buy your first home, move to another property on assignment, or respond to your family’s changing needs.
What are Military specific mortgages?
While a mortgage for military personnel is just like any other mortgage, we ensure that lenders recognise and are comfortable with the fact that your lifestyle is often very different from someone with a standard nine-to-five job.
A standard residential mortgage will allow you to rent out your home as you serve abroad. You can also purchase a home in the UK for your return, or for your family to live in while you are out of the country.
Here at MK Mortgages we can arrange a mortgage to help you buy the property and we specialise in helping service personnel.

Call us now and see how our friendly service and know-how can help ensure you get the right mortgage so you can buy a new home, buy a property to let or simply re-mortgage your existing property.
If you are a first-time buyer, the prospect of buying your first home can be both daunting and confusing. Our aim is to guide you through the transaction from start to finish so that you understand exactly what the purchase entails, and how much it will cost.
Your mortgage is probably the largest financial transaction you are ever likely to make and we are here to make sure you get it right and help you to ensure the process runs smoothly and efficiently.
As mortgage brokers we have access to a comprehensive range of UK mortgages and re-mortgage products including fixed rate, interest only, capped, discount and variable interest rates and buy to let mortgages, from many different lenders across the market. Once we understand your individual circumstances and needs, we will be able to research the mortgage market and recommend the most suitable mortgage deal for you. As part of our service, we will deal with the lender on your behalf, taking the stress out of the process for you.
